Our
Musical Director, Tim Murray, is joined this evening by his father, Ian, for a performance of
Richard Strauss's masterly Oboe Concerto. Despite being written when the composer was 81,
the piece has a youthful Classicism, invoking the spirit of Mozart, whom Strauss so much admired.
The concert closes with an original example of this Classical perfection - one of Mozart's late, great symphonies - but not before Bartók has taken us on a whistle-stop tour of the Romanian countryside.
